Introduction to Modern Calligraphy Workshop – March Recap

I am so excited to finally share with you all of the gorgeous photos from my last Introduction to Modern Calligraphy Workshop!
I hosted this workshop at Jollity & Co. Party Boutique in the Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk, which was the perfect location for the morning’s activities. As soon as I saw the clean white, natural light filled space – I was in love and knew it would be the perfect location. I’m so grateful to have had Courtney of Courtney Inghram Floral Design provide the florals for the tables, and Audrey of Audrey Rose Photography capture all of these beautiful photos!
We started off the day with a mimosa bar, as well as some delicious bagels. Because, who wants to be hangry while they’re trying to learn? While I’m usually an classic mimosa girl (OJ and champagne all the way) I have to say I’ve found a new favorite in raspberry lemonade and champagne with a touch of strawberries on top. If you haven’t tried it – you should.
Once we were all fueled up and ready to go, the class began! One of the most important pieces of calligraphy is to learn how to properly use a nib and nib holder. Hint – it isn’t the way you’d think. When I first started out, I was using it improperly, upside down, and spraying ink ALL OVER my projects. Just like anything, a strong foundation is so important for your success in calligraphy!
Next we moved on to practicing letters, and finally on to stringing them together to make words and sentences. Which, obviously, is the fun part because that’s when we really feel like we’re really doing calligraphy!
I had SO much fun sharing the morning with this hilarious group of students, and so thankful for them spending the day with me – and laughing at all of my corny jokes.
If you’re interested in learning the art of modern calligraphy, I’d love to have you join me at my next modern calligraphy workshop! Head over to the workshops page here to sign up, or get on my e-mail list to be the first to hear when the next class is announced!
